Hair smoothing is all the rage these days and all over the news for some companies but with so many products out there how do you know which one is the best for you? The two main options are a Keratin treatment or Brazilian Blowout. Most people think the BB is a keratin treatment when in fact it is merely a smoothing treatment. Let’s take a look at the two and see list the pros and cons to both products and their respective claims.

Keratin Complex

With this process you start by shampooing the hair with a non-residue shampoo 2-3 times.

After a towel dry and then a complete blow dry the solution is applied to sections of the hair and a cap is worn for up to 30 minutes to let the product penetrate the hair shaft.

After it is blown dry completely it is flat ironed at around 450 degrees and that is how you leave with the product still in your hair but dry. Note: stylists will use a lower temp for very dry or damaged (over processed) hair

After 3 day’s you are instructed to shampoo the hair and not engaging in any kind pony tail, hair tie or moisture prone activity in the meantime that would leave an indention in the hair.

Can color hair prior to treatment or two weeks after

Total time in the salon 3-4 hours (plus shampoo it out 3 days later)

Avg price $350

How long it lasts: 2-3 months

Gets it’s protein from sheeps wool

Pros:

Smooths out the hair

Contains no formaldehyde

Cons:

Lasts on average 2 months

Price is high

Salon time is way too long

Can’t shampoo for 3 days after

Product stays in hair after leaving the salon

Brazilian Blowout Acai Smoothing Treatment

The Brazilian Blowout starts off by shampooing the hair with BB sulfate free shampoo and towel dried

The Acai solution is applied to sections of the hair

It is then blow dried completely and flat ironed at around 450 degrees (same as keratin)

Then the product is rinsed out and a conditioning masque is applied

You will then be blown dry and on your way to shiny frizz free hair

Hair coloring is recommended day of or just prior to treatment as it seals in the hair color making it last longer

Required to use sulfate free hair care products (shampoo, cond etc…)

Total time in the salon 2 hours

Avg price $250

How long it lasts: 3-4 months

BB protein is derived from amino acids

Pros:

Smooths hair and leaves shiny frizz free

Usually takes 1.5 hrs

Lasts minimum 3 months

Can shampoo hair immediately

Hair can still curl for body if need be

Cheaper than keratin smoothing treatments

BB has a new ZERO formula that is completely Formaldehyde Free!

Cons

Original formula contains trace amounts of formaldehyde (BB ZERO does not)

Not every salon performs or carries it (have to be certified)

At Creative Images we don’t perform Keratin treatments because we don’t like the result and it is simply not as effective at smoothing out the hair. The process takes much longer and clients continually complain about the length of time before they can shampoo (3 days).

With Brazilian Blowout the results speak for themselves and we have had ZERO complaints about it’s effectiveness and proven record for smoothing and creating healthy frizz free hair.

We have been performing this service on customers for the past 2.5 years and continue to be amazed at it’s results. The formaldehyde “original” version does last longer than the ZERO formula but BB has just come out with ZERO+ which is supposed to be the equivalent of the formaldehyde laden version minus the formaldehyde. We shall see!

Call now or stop by for a free consultation! If your worried about the formaldehyde ask for Brazilian Blowout ZERO 423-877-1128

What is it with ladies and their ever changing wardrobe and hairstyles? Why can’t members of the fairer sex make up their mind to either follow the trend or start one? Subjecting one’s hair to too much chemical treatment will leave the hair over-processed, dry and damaged.

With so many women having frizzy and very dry hair their have been numerous attemps at trying to keep it straight. Everything from relaxers to flat ironing on a daily basis. For many nothing seems to work and thats why so many are looking to salons for smoothing treatments.

Salons have so many products and solutions to counter hair damage. One of these solutions is called the Keratin Hair Smoothing Treatment and it is one of the most popular treatments for hair in the world. So what exactly is a keratin straightening treatment?

First let’s look at what exactly a keratin is.

What is Keratin?

Keratin is a very strong protein that is most commonly found in our hair, nails, skin and teeth. Most keratin that we can actually see such as hair, nails and skin is actually dead. As new cells form such is the case with hair and nails, the dead cells (the part we see) is already dead. As long as we keep the dead cells in good condition they serve as a protective layer against the new cells beneath them.

What it Isn’t

It is not the Japanese straightening treatments that were so big in the past which permanently alter the hair structure leaving it straight. Often times this caused more harm (damage) than good but women were so eager to get something done they were flocking to it.

Alternatively, most smoothing treatments of today are healthy for the hair and leave it shiny while reducing nearly 95% of the frizz. This translates into faster drying time (blow dry) and hair that guards against humidity.

So What is a Keratin Based Treatment?

Keratin works by filling in the gaps of the hair cuticle that become dry, damaged or even cracked restoring your hair to it’s original state. When mixed with certain levels of formaldehyde it can be applied and sealed into the hair via heat (flat iron) which essentially keeps the keratin molecules together forming a straight healthy bond in the hair…Voila straight hair!

How Long Does It Last

Usually, the treatment sits on your hair for about half an hour before it is blow dried or ironed to ensure that it is being spread out on your hair and is being absorbed by the hair cuticle. Depending on the thickness and length of hair, a treatment lasts from 90 minutes up to 4 hours depending on the brand, stylist and hair length, thickness.

How Much Does It Cost

The cost will also depend on the product being used. Being expensive doesn’t necessarily mean that is better than the rest of the products available in the market. What you need to consider too are the ingredients listed. There are many different brand names on the market but the cost can range from $100 up to $500 depending on the city, brand and hair but the average is usually around $300.

Keratin Treatment Brands

There are several brand names out there, here are a few of the popular names:

Coppola Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy

Global Keratin Complex

The La Brasiliana Treatment

Brazilian Keratin Treatment

Brazilian Blowout

Brazilian Hair Straightening

Bio Ionic

Bella

Brazilian Blowout Smoothing Treatment

The Brazilian Blowout Acai Smoothing Treatment is one of the more famous and popular treatments that works with all types of hair. It is the most innovative professional smoothing that has a formaldehyde free formula called Brazilian Blowout ZERO containing no formaldehyde and improves the condition of your hair through the creation of a layer of protective protein that smoothens cuticle. Ladies who had this treatment swore on its efficacy in making super straight hair.

Formaldehyde Use

Many treatments contain the chemical formaldehyde for its effectiveness on the hair. Brazilian Blowout has been in the public eye for it’s claims that the BB original was a “formaldehyde free” formula when in fact the FDA found trace amounts of formaldehyde. So consequently BB had to label it on their bottles and fact sheets. This has not deterred women from using the product as it’s effectiveness is extremely popular.

Formaldehyde Free

The formaldehyde free keratin treatments are effective but do not last nearly as long as the formaldehyde based products. The length of time is cut in half essentially for the other products without formaldehyde.

Is a Keratin Treatment Safe?

You be the judge! Suffice to say that some women are too fearful of the possible side effects from formaldehyde in the products but that being said, formaldehyde is in so many products and also the air you breathe on a daily basis that it is hard pinpoint just how dangerous it really is.

It is not proven to cause cancer in humans and the FDA has not deemed it dangerous enough to ban it’s use in products like cleaners and also hair products.

Your hair is often the most critical factor in your appearance and for many that is not always a good thing. If you have dry frizzy hair then when Summer hits you are literally wishing you could chop it off and start over. Thankfully there is an answer to your problems but it often comes with a lot of questions and raised eyebrows. So what is Brazilian Blowout?

What is Brazilian Blowout?

The BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT was started in Brazil of course and is perhaps the most innovative and effective professional hair-straightening treatment in the on the market that was developed to not irritate or burn the scalp.

Just ask the celebrities from Halle Berry to Uma Thurman they are all getting it done.

How It Works

Through the use of a Brazilian Super Nutrient Complex and a proprietary polymer system, BB helps to improve hair condition with the addition of a layer of protective protein circumventing the hair shaft. This helps almost completely eliminate frizz hair and smooths out the cuticle.

What results from this smoothing treatment is a healthy radiant shine from hair that is conditioned resulting in no frizz!

The ONLY Professional Smoothing Treatment that improves the health of the hair.

No Damage! and No harsh chemicals!

Formaldehyde free (if you choose the BB zero solution)

The original BB contains a minute amount of formaldehyde

What is Formaldehyde?

Formaldehyde is a chemical that is often used as a preservative and is found most commonly in wood as well as household products such as disinfectants and germicides. It is found in minute levels of the original Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution. Formaldehyde works by altering proteins in the hair called “keratins” which allows the hair to return back to it’s original healthy state.

BB got it’s bad press because it claimed to be “formaldehyde free” which it wasn’t entirely so they have had to change their description thanks to the FDA. The FDA made this decision because BB mislabeled their product when formaldehyde is a known carcinogen. You see the chemical methylene glycol is formed when formaldehyde gas is added to water. When it is heated the chemical changes back to formaldehyde and then is released into the air as a toxin.

So this begs the question, does formaldehyde cause cancer? According to Cancer.gov formaldehyde also OCCURS NATURALLY in the air you breathe on a daily basis. It is emitted from automobiles exhaust as well as household products. They also state that in fact some studies suggest it could cause cancer in humans but there is no proven evidence that it does. Only that it has been shown to cause cancer in rats, the same as sweet n low which continues to be a very popular sweetener.

The response we get from most people is:

“doesnt everything cause cancer these days” the reward far outweighs the risk. I only get it done a couple of times a year.

“If I am going to get cancer it will be from something else not the treatment that gives me confidence and makes me look much better and allows me to feel better about myself on a daily basis.”

Isn’t sweet n low and the use of a microwave a known carcinogen? Ill take my chances with my BB treatment, there is no substitute for the way it smooths out my hair, I couldn’t live without it”

The fact is the FDA doesnt deem it harmful enough to take it off the market they just want the consumers to know the risks involved and make their decision based on facts. Now you know the facts and can decide for yourself with an educated mind. We believe that while many things are known carcinogens the BB is only something you have done every 3 or 4 months.

NOTE: With a well ventilated room and work area we provide as safe an environment as possible but you be the judge and decide for yourself. It’s not for everyone and if you feel like you don’t want to take the risk then by all means we agree you should find an alternative treatment or try the BB Zero as seen below.

So BB developed the Brazilian Blowout Zero solution which is completely formaldehyde free! If you ask for the Zero then we will provide that for you, the cost is the same.

Does Brazilian Blowout Zero work as well as the Original Solution?

In one word… NO! IT works but the results are not nearly as beneficial to the hair and our experience is it does not last as long. But if you would rather not try the original version we are happy to perform the ZERO on you!

In the last year BB has been under fire for it’s Formaldehyde free claim. It has been made to fully disclose all of it’s ingredients which does contain formaldehyde in

Our BB Treatment Process Step by Step

When you first get to our BB certified salon, your stylist will put a drape on you and immediately start by shampooing your hair with the Brazilian Blowout shampoo designed to get rid of residue and retain natural moisture. This professional shampoo is sulfate free and humidity resistant – perfect for the smoothing process.

Next our Brazilian Blowout certified stylist towel dry the hair begin sectioning off your hair and comb the treatment solution through your sections of hair starting at the root and finishing at the tip. The solution surrounds the hair shaft with a protective protein layer to smooth out the cuticle.

Our stylist then will blow dry your hair straightening it out flat with a round or flat brush

After the hair is completely dry we then flat iron 3 inch sections flat and smooth until they are completely straight.

Next we will rinse the hair again (without shampoo) then towel dry and apply the Brazilian Blowout Masque which acts as a sealant on the hair. They will then wait about a minute and rinse the hair again (no shampoo) and towel dry.

Then the BB smoothing serum is applied to further enhance the sealing formula. This also helps the detangle process before the final blow drying.

Our stylist will then blow dry and straighten one final time and style your hair per your request

Approx 90 minutes later you are finished!

NOTE: 90 minutes is the average total time for those with shorter length hair. Obviously for longer hair it can take more time, like 2 hours or so depending on your stylist.

For those wanting to know exactly what is in the Brazilian Blowout you can read their safety disclosure sheet here.

Our Professional Safety Tips Followed (BB safety tips)

Do not work in an enclosed area free from air flow

Product should not be applied directly to customers scalp (although product will come in contact with scalp)

Never perform BB treatment to customers with seriously damaged hair or scalp

Do not apply too much solution to the hair, less is always more with Brazilian Blowout treatments

Recommended Products

Sulfate Free – The recommended shampoo and conditioner for Brazilian Blowout is a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. The reason for this is due to the harshness of sulfate products on the hair. It will diminish the effects of the treatment. So BB obviously recommends their products because of this reason and we can say with proven results that they work very well and keeping your BB treatment lasting at least 3 months and in many cases longer. It’s kind of like buying a race car and only using 87 octane gasoline when the engine requires and runs much better and more efficient on 93 octane. Get it?

Here is a list of the Brazilian Line of Products

Shampoo – will help to retain moisture in the hair (sulfate free & resists humidity)

Conditioner – Keeps color fresh and does not weigh down hair (UVA/UVB protection)

Masque – For medium or coarse hair and acts like a mini BB in a bottle.

Will Pro Hair Tinsel Melt Using A Flat Iron?

Yes but only if you leave a flat iron on too long at high settings (above 400 degrees). Keep the iron moving at all times for silk hair tinsel as well as regular hair to avoid damage. Pro hair tinsel is guaranteed up to 400 degrees with normal styling tools.
TIP: If you flat iron normally at no hotter than 400 degrees you will have no issues.

Can My Silk Hair Tinsel Be Colored/Bleached/Highlighted?

No you should avoid any contact with any hair color, highlighting or dye of any kind as it will damage the color of the product. The harsh chemicals in bleach and other dyes can strip the color out of the tinsel hair products.

However, your stylist can easily color around tinsel for hair. We have done this with great success!

Q. Is the Brazilian Blowout a keratin treatment?

A. No it is a smoothing treatment that puts a coating on the hair. It is healthy for the hair cuticle and is considered advantageous for all hair types.

Q. Who is the best candidate for the Brazilian Blowout?
A. In our experience people who have heavily processed, damaged or really frizzy hair. We have performed these treatment on all hair types including frizzy, course, fine and ethnic hair. All hair types benefit from Brazilian Blowout smoothing treatment.

Q. What will my hair look like after the Brazilian Blowout?
A. Your hair will be really smooth (no frizz), shiny and manageable and with plenty of body. You will still have the option to wear it curly or wavy (depending on the hair type) as well as drying your hair in half the time it took you before.

Q. Can I still receive a Brazilian Blowout if I have highlights and/or color?
A. Absolutely, in fact we recommend you have this procedure done immediately following a hair color treatment. The reason being the Brazilian Blowout will actually seal the cuticle of the hair shaft so it basically puts a coating over the color allowing your color to last longer while simultaneously reducing frizz and giving you a wonderful shine.

Q. Will the Brazilian Blowout make my hair straight?

A. If you have curly hair it will smooth it out and reduce the frizz. In essence yes it will make it straight but depending on the degree of frizz and curl you have it is hard to say whether it will completely straighten your hair. I can tell you this, we have performed this on some of the most coarse and frizzy hair imaginable and it made the hair extremely smooth and shiny. Amazing results!

Q. How long does the Brazilian Blowout last?

A. The Brazilian Blowout can last up to 12 weeks as long as the Acai product line is used in coordination with the treatment. We have seen it last longer in many instances. Brazilian Blowout is a cumulative smoothing treatment meaning the more you have it done the healthier and longer lasting your shine will last.

Q. Can you apply the Brazilian Blowout on other relaxers or straighteners?
A. Yes. The Brazilian Blowout actually works best on chemically treated hair. We have applied it to other relaxers/keratin treatments with absolutely no issue. Brazilian Blowout helps to improve condition of the hair by fortifying each strand with essential amino acids.

TIP: The Brazilian Blowout works great directly on top of a relaxer. Perform the relaxer first, Brazilian Blowout next, and then neutralize at the very end of both treatments.

The Brazilian Blowout is great to perform when someone is trying to move away from having relaxers or Japanese straighteners. It puts movement back into the hair, allowing the hair to look its best.

Q. Will my hair lose volume if I receive the Brazilian Blowout?
A. Absolutely not! Your hair will keep its natural volume and you will have normal volume when blow-drying/styling or using a curling iron.

Q. Can you put color or foil your hair the same day you get a Brazilian Blowout treament?
A. Absolutely in fact we recommend it. Just be sure the BB is done before you receive your color treatment.

Q. How long does a Brazilian Blowout treatment take?

A. This process takes around 2hrs on average depending on hair length. For short hair it can be completed in an hr and half. For long hair can take up to 3 hrs depending on the speed of the stylist. We find that on average it takes about 2 hrs.

Many people want health and beauty products that make them look good without having negative effects on their health. Aveda hair care products are popular because of the high quality and organice nature of their ingredients. They can make your hair look and feel great without damaging your hair in the process. Here is a closer look at their hair care products as well as information on why holistic health and beauty care is so important.

Sodium Sulfate

There are many ingredients in cheap hair products that can cause health problems. One of the most common is sodium laureth sulphate. This is added to many soaps, shampoos and cleansers to make it foam more and work up a bigger lather. It can also cause skin irritation and other health issues. Knowing what goes into your hair products can be the best way for you to keep your mane in top condition. At Creative Images that is exactly what you will get, a knowledgeable staff that knows what your hair wants and needs.

AVEDA

The Aveda Company has always based its products on botanical ingredients rather than chemicals and additives. They have been making their naturally based hair care products since 1978. It was then that they introduced their first hair product. Clove shampoo and Cherry Almond Bark conditioner were introduced to the public as part of the first hair care line from the company.

Hair Type

You need to keep in mind what type of hair you have. Different hair types have different needs because the very structure of the hair strand is different from type to type. This may be due to ethnic differences or because of the natural texture of the hair. Some hair may be drier and others might have problems with excess oil. Learning the exact needs of your hair is critical to finding the most effective products and Creative Images Hair Raisers will help you find that perfect product.

Getting The Right Product

You may want to look for specific products for certain hair types. Some of the Aveda hair care lines are specifically designed for fine hair and hair which is curly or frizzy. They also have a hair care line that is designed for the special needs of color treated hair. The products you use need to avoid stripping the color from the hair so that the coloring treatment can last longer. Because all hair color involves chemical treatments, extra conditioning can be ideal to counter the effects of these chemicals and keep your hair in top condition.

AVEDA Product Line

There are many different hair care items available, including shampoos, conditioners, moisturizing masques and restructuring treatments. They also have a series of different styling products that also use high quality natural ingredients to give you the look that you want. Whether it is styling gel, straightening products or sculpting waxes, the Aveda line can improve the health of your hair even while giving it the style and texture you want.

Where To Shop

There are different ways to find Aveda hair products. There are salons and spas which offer the various lines of products which also include cleansers, make up and perfumes for both men and women. Because the company believes in the use of natural, botanical ingredients and maintains high manufacturing standards the products they make can be priced somewhat higher than many others. However when you consider that you are protecting your health and the environment you may feel that the higher cost is worth it.

Internet

You can also find Aveda shampoos, conditioners and styling products on the Internet as well. There can be great deals but you want to be careful about where you are purchasing the products to make sure they are genuine. The Aveda website can be a great place to shop and there are often sales to be found there.

If looking and feeling good is important to you, picking the right health and beauty products is an important consideration. Aveda skin care and hair care products can have your hair and skin looking and feeling amazing without any negative impacts on your health. Knowing where to look, what to look for and why these products are such great choices is not difficult. Here is what you need to know.

You might be surprised to learn that there are harmful chemicals in your shampoos and conditioners. They can range from artificial perfumes and coloring agents to preservatives and foaming agents. Many people are tired of the thought that their health is at risk just so that they can look better. Aveda has always believed in using natural and sustainable ingredients in the cleansers and products that it makes. Their natural approach has won them many awards and accolades throughout their history.

The first Aveda hair products were produced in 1978 and they have been making high quality shampoos, conditioners, styling aids and botanically based skin care ever since. They use mainly botanical ingredients and extracts in their products rather than loading them up with a lot of chemical additives. Their effectiveness has made them a favorite of many different salons and hair professionals.

When shopping for hair and skin care products, you need to think about the kind of hair and skin you have. Curly hair, for example, has different needs than straight hair does. You may find that very dry hair also has different needs than hair which is overly oily. Much of your skin care is treated in the same way. One of the good things about the Aveda hair care products is that the company makes it easy to find specific items which will help improve the look and feel of your hair rather than experimenting with ineffective or harmful items. The Aveda Green Science skin care line is paving the way for botanically based earth friendly science.

You need to be especially careful about choosing products if you color your hair. This is because the chemicals can severely dry or damage your hair. If you perm or chemically treat your hair as well, it can dry it out or even burn it so you need to think about this when deciding which shampoos, conditioners and treatment masks you will be using.

The Aveda company manufactures a number of different items. They include shampoos and conditioners as well as more intensive treatment products for dry and damaged hair. They also manufacture skin care and makeup products to help you naturally treat your skins health. There are also tanning products as well with Aveda. They offer an indoor tanning lotion as well known as Sun Source.

Aveda products are available in salons and spas only. Aveda does not do diversion which is the unauthorized sale of their high quality salon products through a third party. Not all salons carry these items however so you may need to do a bit of research before you can find one which does. You may be surprised to find that they are more expensive than many store brands but the quality of their ingredients and the effectiveness of the products themselves really make up for the higher cost.

Many people may try to shop online but you want to be careful. If you are not shopping at the Aveda website or an authorized Aveda Salon such as Creative Images Aveda Salon in Chattanooga, Tn, you may want to make sure that you are getting genuine products and not artificial knock offs. The website does have sales from time to time and you can often save money by purchasing more than one product at a time. It is worth checking in from time to time to find out what sales are available.

Aveda (a-vay-da), not pronounced (Aveeda) was founded by Horst Rechelbacher in 1978 and has been one of the industries leading companies in hair and skin care products since their inception over thirty years ago. Their mantra “the art and science of pure flower and plant essences” symbolizes everything they stand for as it relates to the environment. Aveda’s goal is to provide beauty industry professionals with organic botanically based products that are not only great for you the customer but also for the environment we live in. After all if we do not preserve this great world we live in then there will be no more you and me.

You can find Aveda’s plant based skin care, hair care, makeup and and Pure-fumes in any of their signature Aveda Stores as well as over 7000 hair salons in 24 countries.

Aveda is known worldwide having opened spas in jamaica, South Korea and Iceland in 1997.

In 1998 Aveda launched a 99% naturally derived hair color called Full Spectrum.

In 2006 Aveda opened a Lifestyle Salon & Spa in Japan.

In 2007 Aveda had the honor of becoming the first natural beauty company to be a 100% certified wind power manufacturer. Our funding of new wind energy sources generates enough wind energy to offset 100% of the electricity used by our primary manufacturing facility, distribution center and corporate headquarters in Blaine, Minnesota, USA, making Aveda the largest corporate purchaser of wind energy in Minnesota.

Also that same year Aveda raised over 2 million dollars in their efforts to be a supporter in clean water rights for earth month.

As if these milestones are not enough Aveda decides to take it a step further and annousce that 89% of their essential oils are certified organic. This is truly amazing and significant considering Aveda will purchase more than 30 tons of certified organic essential oils in one year.

As you can see Aveda is all about the environment and not only preserving it but using it to help each other and the world. What better brand of natural products to use then Aveda products.
